Which Moroccan peppers you can buy: varieties and types

Export pepper leaves from Souss-Massa, from the greenhouses of the Chtouka plain and around Agadir. It comes from the same area as tomato, so it is easy to combine both products on the same truck.

We work with four commercial types. California red, yellow and green is the main volume for wholesalers and retail. Lamuyo, rectangular with thick walls, is in high demand in Spain and Portugal. Sweet tip, elongated and pointed, in red, serves specialty segments. Tricolour flow-pack brings together red, yellow and green peppers packed together for the shelf.

According to HortiDaily, citing FEPEX analysis, pepper ranks just after tomato among the Moroccan vegetables most imported into the EU. You can see the specifications on our Moroccan pepper product page and in the guide to importing Moroccan pepper.

How to specify your order: size, format and label

For pepper, size runs from M to GG and is measured by diameter and length depending on the commercial type. Tell us the type and size you need: California is controlled by diameter and number of lobes, and Lamuyo by straightness and length. This way you avoid receiving shapes your customer does not want.

In format, you can choose a 5 kg box or a 3-piece flow-pack for the tricolour. Each box is checked for a net weight of 5 kg and carries a label with origin and class. If your customer needs specific labelling, check it with our team before the campaign.

Also define the class and the minimum colour in writing before the first order. Pepper with an incomplete colour break to red or yellow is reclassified, and a clear criterion avoids disputes at destination.

Moroccan pepper season: when supply is available

The export pepper season runs from November to May, with the peak between December and April. It is a shorter and later window than tomato's. Pepper needs more time in the plant to turn from green to red or yellow, so in November the first harvests leave mostly green.

From December to April the plants are in full production under greenhouse cover, with mild days and high light in Souss. These are the months of all three colours, with good flesh wall and large sizes. In May the season ends: heat reduces size and firmness, and pepper from Almería and northern Europe comes in strongly.

Morocco complements Almería and the Netherlands in winter. From June to October there is no exportable supply. These are data for the 2025/26 season; confirm weekly availability before you close a programme.

How pepper is checked at origin

We check each pallet in the store before loading, against the written specification we agree with you. Size is checked with a gauge, the number of lobes on California, straightness on Lamuyo, and uniformity within each box. For colour, we measure the percentage of red and yellow colouring.

For firmness and wall, we look for firm fruit with thick walls and no wrinkling from dehydration. We inspect for bruises, sunburn, blossom-end rot, damage from thrips or caterpillars, and the condition of the peduncle. Pulp temperature is measured with a probe in several boxes to confirm 7–10 °C before loading.

Before departure you receive a report with photos for each pallet: overall view, open box, colour and size detail, and a temperature reading. Each trailer carries a temperature logger. More information is on our quality control at origin page.

How to order a pallet of Moroccan pepper

You can start with a single pallet on our refrigerated groupage shared trucks, which depart weekly and, depending on demand, up to daily. Pepper travels in the same lane as tomato, at a shared temperature set point, so you can share the departure with tomato pallets.

With 1 to 10 pallets per week, groupage is the usual option. With more than 26 pallets on the same lane, a full load gives one origin and destination. The usual Incoterms are DAP to your market, or FCA at origin if you have your own transport.

Indicative transit is 2 to 3 days to Spain, 3 to 4 days to France and 5 days to Germany, and is confirmed with each booking. To request a quote, tell us your destination, type, size, format and delivery weeks on our contact page.
