Which Moroccan blueberries you can buy: varieties and formats
Export blueberry comes from southern highbush varieties, which have a low chill requirement and many of which are licensed. It is sold in 125 to 500 g punnets and packed in boxes of 12 punnets of 125 g, about 220 boxes per pallet.
Blueberry comes from three areas. Loukkos, in Larache, is the historical area for Moroccan red fruit. Gharb, in Kénitra, has grown strongly in recent seasons. Souss-Massa, around Agadir, brings production forward and extends the season when the north is cold. You can see the areas on our Moroccan regions of origin page.
According to Blueberries Consulting, EastFruit places Morocco among the three fastest-growing agricultural exporters, and small fruits such as raspberry and blueberry are among the growing products. See the Moroccan blueberry product page and the blueberry and raspberry import guide.
How to specify your blueberry order: size, punnet and label
Blueberry size is ordered as 12 mm or more, or 16 mm or more, depending on your order. State which one you need, together with the punnet format. Colour and bloom must be blue and uniform, with the natural wax layer intact. Firmness and a dry stem scar are part of the inspection.
Formats range from 125 to 500 g punnets. We check net weight per punnet and origin labelling. Also tell us the labelling you need and check it with us before the campaign.
Define the minimum °Brix in writing. It is measured with a refractometer against the value agreed with the buyer, and a clear specification avoids disputes when the pallet arrives.
Moroccan blueberry season: when supply is available
Morocco exports blueberry in the window when Europe has the least own production. The season runs from December to May, with a peak from February to April, and exact dates change with each year's weather. In December volumes are low, with the first southern highbush harvests. In January volume increases week by week.
From February to April is the maximum volume, with mild temperatures and longer days in Loukkos, Gharb and Souss-Massa. In May supply falls, because heat shortens shelf life and competition arrives from Huelva and the rest of Europe. From June to November there are no blueberry exports.
These are data for the 2025/26 season. Confirm weekly availability before you close a programme, especially if your order depends on the first weeks of the season.
How blueberry is cooled and checked at origin
Our team checks each lot at the producer's store before loading. Size is checked, 12 mm+ or 16 mm+ depending on the order; so are colour and bloom, firmness and the dry stem scar, and °Brix with a refractometer against the agreed value. Defects such as soft, wrinkled, split or mouldy fruit, and fruit with peduncle remains, are also removed.
Forced-air pre-cooling is done in the first hours after harvest. Pulp temperature is measured with a probe, aiming for 0–1 °C before the truck is closed. Blueberry travels in Agro Morocco's cold lane, at 0–1 °C and 90–95 % relative humidity.
You receive a report with photos of the pallet, the open punnet and the probe and refractometer readings, along with the temperature logger record. More detail is on our quality control at origin page.
How to order a pallet of Moroccan blueberries
The minimum order is one pallet on our refrigerated groupage shared truck, which leaves from Larache or Kénitra and crosses via Tanger Med to Algeciras. You can combine the pallet with other cold-lane products, such as strawberry. For larger volumes, a full load gives one origin and destination.
Blueberry, with 2 to 3 weeks of shelf life, handles distant destinations well. Indicative transit is 2 to 3 days to Spain, 4 days to France and 5 days to Germany. Avoid mixing it with avocado, tomato or melon, which give off ethylene.
The usual Incoterms are DAP to your market or FCA at origin. Times are confirmed with each booking. To request a quote, write to our sales team.
